Fabric Flower Wedding Hair Accessories

We touched on making fabric flowers in one of our previous posts. Fabric flowers make great accents for any accessory project, and on this occasion, we used them on hairpieces customized for a wedding's female entourage hair pieces.

The wedding motif was purple and gray and the female entourage's gowns were predominantly made with chiffon fabric. The technique we used to make fabric flowers was simple stitching over long fabric. We pulled the fabrics tightly together to complete the 'petal illusion'. The beading accents used were; rhinestones, fresh water pearls, and faux pearls. These materials give the flowers a sophisticated look apt for a formal event. Since the bridesmaids' and secondary sponsors' hairpieces had alligator clip settings, we decided to make the flower girls' hairpieces into headbands.

We incorporated purple crystals to set this piece apart from the other flower fabric clip ons.

A Bohemian- Inspired Wedding

" I've always planned to wear Palamuti on my wedding. I mean, traditional jewelry is nice and all but ever since, I was never really into it. so yeah, when Donna showed me some of your stuff before, I've decided to   have my jewelry made by Palamuti." - Maita

Maita has been our client since we started. She was kind enough to remember us when she was to tie the knot, and considered having her accessories customized. Their wedding theme was a Bohemian one, which gave us more freedom to explore designs apt to their tastes, especially the bride's. We not only made the bride's accessories, but the accessories used by her female entourage as well.

Her necklace and headpiece represented earth, water, fire,  and metal. We used gray, red, blue and brown crystals for these pieces. Initially, we only made her and her Maid of Honor's accessories. In the long run however, Maita also asked us to create designs she envisioned for her bridesmaids and secondary sponsors too. Looking at the photos from her wedding, we knew it was magical day in her life, and we were very happy to have been part in it.

Her entourage wore bohemian bands with flower fabrics.
Her Maid of Honor took advantage of her wedding's theme and added her own tastes to her ensemble.

She had a toe-ring-anklet customized.
The main head piece that pulled the entourage's outfits together were their boho bands. Being a practical woman, the Maid of Honor asked us to make the flower design detachable, giving her three (3)accessory options in one piece.

Fabric Flowers

Dr. Maris of Philippine Heart Center gives her fedora a twist by pinning rose fabric brooches.
Flowers are a common subject for our pieces. Aside from bead embroidery, we also explore other materials in making them, such as fabrics. We collect and use them in making flower accessories such as; brooches, necklaces, and bracelets. You can also use them as accents or components to other projects, and in this case we used them as hat fascinators. Here are some photos of the flowers we made using different fabrics and techniques. You can also visit Skip to my Lou to check out how to make different kinds of fabric flowers.

We use different fabrics from laces to denim to make these flowers.

FABRIC FLOWER 1:
Kanzashi Flowers: Each petal is folded individually and sewn together to resemble a flower. We added, as a personal touch, buttons and beads on the middle to represent the pistil
"Kanzashi (ç°ª) are hair ornaments used in traditional Japanese hairstyles.
In the English-speaking world, the term "kanzashi" is occasionaly applied to the folded cloth flowers that traditionally adorned tsumami kanzashi, the technique used to make those flowers."

With a use of a long sash, you can pin the Kanzashi brooches and make them as part of the design of your hairpiece.
They make great "Thank You" tokens.
Our Kanzashi Flowers can be used as a decorative accent to a plain necklace.

FABRIC FLOWER 2:
Lace flowers: Instead of using pre-made ribbons, we used lace as our choice to make these flowers. Sometimes, fabrics such as charmeuse, georgette, or satin are used in place of the laces. This technique is the simplest form since you only have to use a running stitch for the flower's base, then the end of the thread is pulled to make the petals.

With our Aging Winter Collection, we combined velvet flowers and bead embroidery.

FABRIC FLOWER 3:
Rose Flowers: It's very easy to make rose fabrics. You can refer to this blog Billie Monster for the tutorial.

You can use the rose fabric flowers as accents to your projects.

FABRIC FLOWER 4
Distressed Flowers: The fun part with making the distressed fabric flowers is that you can use "retaso" (scrap fabric) to make the details. These fabrics give these flowers quirkiness and edge.

We used distressed flowers as the main design to our denim bracelets.
The "retaso" fabrics make the flowers more interesting.
