How do you begin forever?!!#@#?

"How do you begin forever?" - This just might be the toughest question a girl has to answer. Believe me, beyond butterflies and utopia, a soon to be blushing bride has a lot more to think about besides her dreamy prince charming. Before we were women, we were simple-minded little girls. Love was succinct; heck, boil it down to the all too familiar fairytale story. The beautiful princess in distress is rescued by her knight-in-shining-armor, the dragon is slain, and soon enough wedding bells are ringing! If only the talking birds and singing mice were here to take care of all the pre-wedding dirty work!

Before I yell "wake up princess" and splash on some water on our soon to be "fairytale" brides, I am happy to bring about some good news! We may not have the magic of talking birds and singing mice, but we do have our very own modern-day fairy godmother; her name is Themes and Motifs - The Special Events Co. Gone are the days of the worrisome brides, for Themes and Motifs, with her army of fairies has come to slay the Bridezilla in every beauty.

Every princess needs her frost; but what if diamonds can never become her best-friend?! Imagine the pressure one beauty places on her dear prince charming's shoulders, as he spends sleepless nights wondering where to dig for gold in exchange for a set of expensive rocks?

Well fear not blushing beauties, because the wedding gods have heard you! They send us gifts named costume jewelry. Meet PJ Valenciano, owner and designer of Palamuti Storytelling Jewels. Taken under the Themes and Motifs wedding armada, this "jewel fairy's" dreamy custom-made creations are ever so ready to satisfy your heart's desire. Name it, she'll make it! Now let's toast to that!

*PJ's pretty rocks are available at the Themes and Motifs one-stop shop, located at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.

Love PJ's creations? :) Add Palamuti on Facebook.

Strut Your Cuffs

When you say fashion, what comes first into people's mind are trendy clothes. One definition of fashion is that it is the prevailing mode of style or dress; custom or conventional usage in respect of dress, behavior etiquette, etc. But fashion isn't just about the trendy and stylish clothes. Accessories are also part of fashion, be it bags, belts or jewelries.

One of Palamuti's best sellers are the denim cuffs. These cuffs made its debut at the Global Pinoy Bazaar last year and were also sold to friends and loved ones. Apparently, the denim cuffs were instant hit with the younger generations.

Personally, I think their cool! You can wear a plain shirt and jeans or a simple jersey dress, and your outfit will perfectly go with denim cuffs. I don't really see many students in school wearing denim cuffs. Most students wear the common baller and leather cuffs. It would be awesome to be one of the students in my school to set the trend. What's not to love about these denim cuffs?

Since the denim cuffs had been so popular, Palamuti by PJ Valenciano has also created these embellished cuffs from the collection Wildlife,  which are equally beautiful!

A Venue For Filipino Heritage

“Space is the breath of art” — Frank Lloyd Wright

I consider it a masterwork when an unused space is turned to a memorable location. My heart felt pleased as I see a place change from being just a site, into becoming a location that cultivates memorable experiences.

On its 15th year, Filipinas Heritage Library opened their doors and invited interested event enthusiasts to come and see one of Makati City’s historic structures, a space set with rich background and unique architecture.

This occasion entitled as “Book at the Library,” took place last Friday, August 26, 2011 to showcase the several venues that they offer for various functions. This first open house event was conducted to draw event specialists and people who are looking for a venue to book for an event and I am one of the lucky visitors to check out the scene.

I scouted the venue. Numerous suppliers inclined at participating with events lined up the Library’s right space. Most of the booths are offering products or services that can be valuable in any celebrations like weddings, birthdays and even corporate events. Among these is Palamuti by PJ Valenciano that caters custom-made jewelries ideal for any wedding and/or birthday occasions.

If you are one of those lucky brides who are soon to wed, or is someone who is looking forward to your next grand birthday with a touch of a traditional Filipino feel, Filipinas Heritage Library venues are perfect. No need to worry about the catering set-ups as they also have several accredited caterers that can serve any occasion. I suggest to just find your perfect gown to match the location, and top it up with any of Palamuti’s all-handmade fashion pieces or request to customize your accessories to accentuate your theme. Then I’m pretty sure everything will fall into place.

Low-key, High-style!

It may be the secret wish of every girl to look effortlessly beautiful. I know I've daydreamed more than once about looking like Natalie Portman the moment I wake up and rise from the bed. But alas! Not all dreams are meant to come true in the exact way we wish them to. But to an extent, I've found that it's not at all entirely Herculean a task to look good with minimal effort.

Of course, some steps had to be taken to achieve this state (and mind you, it's still a work in progress). But I've found that editing your wardrobe and taking at all the ratty clothes help a lot--this way you won't be tempted to wear that comfy old sweater with a too-loose neck.

Another thing that I've also discovered is makeup. I avoided putting on makeup in the past because 1) i didn't want to make the effort everyday (precious time wasted???); and 2) I wanted to avoid putting things on my face that could worsen the state of my skin. But now, I've progressed to dusting powder on my face to at least try to manage the oiliness. I've also started regularly putting a bit of blush, brown or bronze eye shadow, and black mascara, of course! So it's not the fully made-up, geisha look that I abhor seeing, but at least my features are slightly better accentuated.

And then there's the hair. I recently cut it to some sort of asymmetrical bob, which has been good for me because I tend to pull my shoulder-length hair into a tight ponytail most of the time. I still remember my former office-mate telling me that she was "so sick of my hairstyle" and threatening to end our friendship if I didn't style it differently the next day! The short 'do has been good--I've been getting lots of compliments and people have recently been telling me that I was blooming. A lot of people at work also have short hair, especially the moms. But I guess what really makes the difference is my secret weapon--MAJOR EARRINGS!

Since the emphasis is all in the face, and there's a tendency to look boyish with short hair, I always wear statement earrings. From long crystal ones, feathered pairs, or statement beaded earrings, i think that's what really sets the look apart. It's instant glam, whether you have short or pulled-back hair. And unlike a complicated hairstyle, putting on a pair of earrings is as simple as 1, 2, 3!

Suit Yourself With Stress-Free Styling

Sometimes, dressing up for work, gathering, or any event can be such a fuss for a woman and days come that we, ladies, wish to take a break from the pain of carefully assembling an astounding mix of clothes and fashion accessories. On some occasion, we’ll always be happy with putting on easy but pretty wardrobe without going that much hassle.
One thing caught my eye , Luanne Dy — one of the beautiful correspondents of Unang Hirit on GMA 7 — was wearing a remarkable neckpiece that glistens over her simple coral-colored dress.

I looked closely and recognized it as Malaya — a refined collection made by Palamuti by PJ Valenciano in commemoration of the Independence Day we all celebrated last June. The shades of Malaya reminded me of the colors of our flag which gave me a feeling of representation. Proudly Filipino, I must say.

I made a mental keynote: a simple dress + an attractive statement necklace = Voila! An appealing guise of unpressured get-up! Surely, this necklace alone can dress up your attire. You can just simply grab the plainest of all pieces in your wardrobe and match it with an eye-catching necklace. It’ll make you a fashion icon, in your world, in no time.

Supladita, Your Fashion and Style Gallery

It’s no secret that almost every girl on the planet has, at least once in her life, wanted to run her own boutique or start her own clothing line. Females have a special affinity for clothes; where a man usually sees a basic need, a woman will see an opportunity to make the world a little bit better, more vibrant, and more pleasing to the eyes. But although this dream has only been a passing fancy for most women, it has certainly come true for Supladita proprietor Jennifer Montano.

Growing up, Jennifer has always enjoyed traveling—taking in the sights, immersing herself in different cultures, and, of course, sampling the local retail fare. It was on her frequent trips that she started to collect designer bags and apparel, and began to acquire a taste for products with both great design and craftsmanship. As it turns out, along with her style evolution came the admiration of friends who loved her pieces so much that she eventually would sell some of these to them! The entire process of traveling and shopping, not just for herself but for her friends as well, appealed to Jennifer very much; thus, after being at it for several years, she came to the natural progression of wanting to start a boutique and turning her passion and hobby into a full-fledged career. And after months of arduous preparation, Supladita is finally here!

Supladita is the answer to what Ms. Montano perceives to be the need of Filipina women for stylish yet affordable clothes that are locally available. Now, you won’t have to go to Hong Kong or Bangkok or the USA to score a fashionable deal! At the moment, the apparel, bags, and other accessories, some coming from Palamuti by PJ Valenciano available at the boutique comprises of pieces that are specially curated by the owner to suit the tastes of their patrons—both in terms of style and price range—expect to be treated to a wide array of the loveliest and most curious items from all over the country and the continent as well. Jen is also currently studying Fashion Design to better address the needs of her market and to ensure that Pinays will always find a great selection in the boutique, regardless of what the rest of the fashion industry produces.

If you want a unique and quaint shopping experience, the Supladita boutique at #79 West Avenue in Quezon City is an absolute must-visit for you! Watch out for the opening of their stores in shopping malls over the next year or so too!

Little Things Can Mean So Much by Monica Verallo

Let me tell you a story. A couple of weeks ago, I was assigned to cover this huge expo held at World Trade Center in Pasay. I knew it was going to be big, and I was excited to meet all these people in the expo. The night before, however, something unfortunate happened and all the excitement, anticipation, and eagerness flew away in a snap. I was really down. Come the day of the event, my mood remained as bad and I merely took the very first dress I saw in my closet for the event. It was a simple, plain maroon dress. As I was about to leave the house, I accidentally saw my Palamuti bag which happened to have my new supply of accessories. I opened it and there, right at the very top, I saw this yellow-brown bib-like necklace. I wasn’t sure if it would fit my dress, but I was ultimately sure that I fell in love with it at first sight. Without thinking twice, I placed it in my bag and finally left. Upon arrival at the expo, I wore it without even checking the mirror. I was running late anyway and there was no time to see how I actually looked. I knew deep inside though that I loved the piece and I trust that feeling.

Lights came out, cameras started to roll, and my work began. The whole coverage took three hours. It was tiring and the fact that it was just the beginning of a whole day of work was stressing me enough. My mood sanked more. As I was about to leave the venue, one of the top organizers of the event approached me and thanked me for the coverage. We had a little chat and exchanged numbers. While I was typing in her digits, she suddenly blurted out, “I always watch you in Unang Hirit and you guys are very versatile no? One day you give public service, the following day you’re all glamed up. Like now. And I love your necklace by the way.” At this point I remembered that I haven’t checked myself on the mirror and so after we said our goodbyes, I went straight to the ladies room. There, for the first time, I was looking at this girl wearing a simple maroon dress accentuated by a very pretty necklace. In fact at first glance, it didn’t seem like a necklace. It looked as if it was part of the dress. It was very beautiful.

You know that saying ‘looking good is feeling good?’ That moment was the perfect example of it. It just happened. All the bad vibes were gone, my mood lightened up like a bulb, and instantly feel so much better. Needless to say, I survived the rest of the day with a genuine smile plastered on my face.

This is just a simple story of how little things can mean so much. The necklace may be just a simple piece of accessory for many but for me, it is a reminder that bad days are indispensable but what’s far more important is how you handle them. So next time you feel like the whole world is against you, fight it with your best weapon! In my case, it is the yellow-brown, bib-like Palamuti necklace. :)

Ali Sotto: Up Close And Personal With Palamuti

On the third week of August, GMA News Tv 11’s veteran host Ali Sotto will be wearing one of our Amatullah Necklaces in the next episodes of “Personalan,” the new drama talk show that features restrained confrontations and real-life issues between different people.

When Ali saw the bibs, she loved the necklace and appreciated the craftsmanship behind the pieces. The first necklace Ali will be wearing is the Amatullah 2 that is deliberately handstitched and polished. This piece, as well as its other counterparts in the collection, took 6 days (eight hours straight each day) to finish.

Ali will also be wearing Amatullah 1, a special design that is detailed with geometric shapes figures and interesting colors.

When it comes to accessorizing for her shows, Ali swore by her taste for simple yet classy statement pieces. Most of the items she adores are long necklaces and butterfly accents. Since we at Palamuti specialize on custom-made accessories, we have been given the opportunity to show her a variety of our collections. Among the selections is The Amatullah Collection which is a set of big bib necklaces characterized by colorful geometric patterns that were prevalent as Islamic decorations dating back from various early cultures like Greek, Roman, Asian, and Persian. Local artisan PJ Valenciano was very much fascinated by these artful figures that she incorporated them to her works.

Palamuti by PJ Valenciano will be releasing the full Amatullah Collection on September 2011. The collection was inspired by Geometric Islamic Patterns. Watch Personalan on GMA News Tv to see Ali wearing our necklaces.

Soulful Power of Words

Home and Living website writer KC Santos, from loqal.ph , is one of the latest writers to feature  Palamuti by PJ Valenciano. On a recent visit to Rhum community bazaar, held on July 31, 2011 at Bulwagang Claret in Claret School Diliman, she happened upon a booth with customized jewellery, manned by two of Palamuti’s very own highly skilled craftswomen.

She was fascinated to learn that the intricately made pieces were produced by hand, a skill which all Palamuti artisans are well versed in; and that every single design, pattern, and concept all came from one woman, one designer. After an in depth interview, she was able to paint a much clearer picture on Palamuti by PJ Valenciano, and was able to transform it into the medium that she is best at: the soulful power of words.

Entrepreneur finds true passion in custom-made accessories

Accessorizing anytime, anywhere

Last weekend, I had to be at an event where we were required to wear our national costumes.  It was a Global Leaders Summit attended by YFC's from Canada, Australia, Singapore, Kenya, USA, and the Philippines, and I was part of the production team.  If you are a Filipino commuting from QC to the Mall of Asia in Pasay City, in this unpredictable weather and with a laptop and camera in your backpack, you might have some apprehensions about wearing a Filipiniana costume.  It's really impractical!  And taking a cab will set you back too much, given the horrid traffic in the city.  What's a girl to do?

Then I realized, if there was something that could help me achieve the effect but won't leave me worrying about accidentally tearing the delicate pina of the baro't saya, it was the RIGHT ACCESSORY!

I didn't want to wear a terno or a saya, so i grabbed an old tribal-looking, woven fabric at home--it's probably a table runner--and wrapped it around like a skirt under a black mini.  I wore it with a basic white button-down blouse and completed the look with a huge embellished bib from Palamuti (Stillness of the Butterfly, Wildlife collection) that was beaded in tribal colors too and voila! Instantly cool outfit! It was quite unique, I felt great, and I was 100% comfortable.  I had no trouble moving around the place or commuting either.

Everyday, we get dressed to go to work or to school and sometimes it can be a hassle to look good.  There's always so many things to consider--the event, venue, the weather, the mode of transport.  But if there is one thing that can make you look good without leaving you to sacrifice comfort or safety, it's good accessories!  So whether yours is a statement necklace or eyecatching earrings or a classic belt that cinches the waist, use it to your advantage! You can be practical and still be pretty!
