Tribal Fashion in Everyday Jewelry

The origins of tribal fashion can be attributed to more than 8,000 years of amalgamating ethnic roots and cultural diversity; all united under the common theme of celebrating the human body. Various tribes from Africa, India, and South America all share a characterization of connecting spirituality with its physical vessel, and this can be seen through ornaments, tattoos, clothing, and rituals that glorify physique.
Keeping this ethos for “love of the body” in mind, another unifying theme for clothing within the “tribal” movement is based on elements such as climate conditions and its connectivity to their natural environment.  Established fashion houses have been known to get inspiration from the tribal theme, and collections from these design studios have come to incorporate cultural inspirations from a worldwide selection.

Tribal clothing is mostly associated with “music festival” and “Bohemian” wear. With its bold colors, tribal fashion brings a sense of vibrancy and exotic tones, incorporated to “Western” attires.  Style icons have released lines of jewelry, bags, and clothing with designs infused with bold prints, beads, stones, and dyes.  This goes to show that fashion inspirations can be drawn from anywhere, with aesthetical boundaries simple undergoing a process of deconstruction, infusion, and assimilation.

Elegance in a Maxi Dress

Art Jewelry by PJ Valenciano
Artisan Bag by Paola Germar
A maxi dress is a dress that reaches to, or past, your ankle. They’re designed to drape naturally over a woman’s body, loosely flowing from top to bottom. Maxi dresses are styled according to your height and your body figure. Let that be a warning that the feminine maxi dress looks better on some more than others, but if you’re able to pull it off, the rewards are immense.
However, there are certain “maxi-hacks” which can make most dresses look better on you, such as adding a customizedpiece to complement your body shape. This eliminates the dress needing to “work” more to complete your look more than it should.
Accessorizing yourself in an elegant maxi dress is actually the fun part--- you can switch your look to suit your mood by adding accessories such as jewelry, clutch purses, and a pair of designer shoes. Dress up with bohemian beads and sparkle, or dress down with wardrobe staples such as your favorite leather jacket!

Street Style: Fall Preview

“Street Style” or “Street Fashion” is a fashion movement that originated from the grassroots, or simply put, clothes that people where when going about their daily business. The big names in fashion have caught on to this movement at about the same time the Internet or the “blogger” age came into popularity.
Street Style generally pertains to youth culture and subcultures, and the outfits they would where in a world famous, fashion-forward cosmopolitan city such as New York, Tokyo, or London.  For example, modern Japanese street fashion has its roots in the 19th century, the dawn of Japan’s end to isolationism, resulting to opening its doors to Western nations. This allowed for cultural assimilation, and in terms of clothing, the Japanese began fusing current trends with traditional attires.
“Urban fashion”, on the other hand, owes its emergence to rising popularity of “Hip hop”. We can credit the African American youth scene dating back to the 1970’s, in most major cities in the United States, for contributing elements to this form of fashion expression. From sneakers to the “bling” generation, this fashion style encroaches a worldwide audience, crossing ethnic borders and established lines of clothing.

The list goes on. Surf culture, hippie culture, haute couturefashion, and many more; all represent this global fashion phenomenon. Big label brands and small “do-it-yourself” brands are all into this scene. With the rise of social media, smartphones, and Wi-Fi, it will be interesting to see what diverse changes “Street Style” will bring in the distant, and not-so-distant future.

Art Jewelry

Every now and then, I take my needle and thread to create new jewelry pieces out of loose materials. I enjoy the spontaneity of creating freeform designs without having to draw or sketch them.  This week, I was inspired by an upcoming collaborative project with a visual artist for July. I was inspired to make these new freeform pieces from extra materials that we’ve accumulated through the years.
I am first an artist, and I know in my heart that creating artistic pieces comes naturally to me. I have plenty of designs that have yet to unfold. More than being an entrepreneur and earning something from my creations, I am enriched by the spiritual and emotional rewards that being creative and making something out of that creativity bring.
Art is recognized as a therapeutic form of activity. Using the creative process and the resulting artwork to explore our emotions has been widely accepted, and practiced by leading psychiatrists, medical institutions, and the academia. Artistic pursuits are a holistic form of healing, and it can give anyone a sense of personal well-being.

Handmade Haute Couture

The founding father of haute couture was an Englishman named Charles Frederick Worth. In 1858, he opened a shop on Paris’ Rue de la Paix. A notable innovation precursory to the modern fashion scene, brought about by Charles Frederick Worth, was the emergence of the designer label. It became a practice to debut seasonal collections, shown live to clients with the use of models. Members of high society came to the designer’s plush boutique, not the other way around. No less than the great author of that period, Charles Dickens, remarked in astonishment that a bearded man was allowed to practically let his hands roam free on the highest titled women in Paris— dressing and undressing them at his behest, physically moving them to any bodily position he wished.
If one so wishes, today’s modern woman can choose to be laden in fashion luxuries similar to those afforded to women of high society. She can easily travel across the globe, looking for great finds at some of the most famed boutiques there are. Exude confidence through your fashion sense, by being bold, fashion-forward, and aware of the latest trends.
Have your very own haute couture piece specially customized to suit the elegant woman in you! Whether you’re a city girl or a country maiden, we can tailor the perfect handmade piece for you. Show that you’re special amongst a global crowd of hundreds, even thousands, who wear high-end couture six out of seven times a week.

Mother’s Day has been celebrated since the time of ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of ancient goddesses. The earliest known celebration in modern time however, can be attributed to the Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday”, which traditionally fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent. The holiday came to change in the 20th century, and through the passage of time, it shed its religious roots and become a worldwide secular holiday.
Meet Christine & Gail: Fashionable, passionate sisters and mothers of Cayetano Legacy Collection, USA

Most countries around the world celebrate Mother’s Day, the dates, traditions, and stories of Mother’sDay vary from place to place, but traditionally, we usually present a gift to mothers, (and women) to show our appreciation. Keep in mind that Mothers Day is a time to celebrate the joys of having a mother. Reflect on her hopes and dreams, and plan out your gifts based on what she wants. You need not give the most expensive and luxurious present, but something unique, original, and heartfelt will surely be appreciated.
