Kikay Pinay at the Global Pinoy Bazaar 2010!

Kikayism, our online store will be joining the Global Pinoy Bazaar 2010 on November 6 to 7, 2010! Palamuti Jewelry will be on display.

1.) Why are we joining Yabang Pinoy’s Global Pinoy bazaar?

In line with Yabang Pinoy’s desire to advocate Pinoy pride, we at Kikayism genuinely believe in the sheer talent that Filipino citizens are able to harness. In honoring national diversity, Kikayism has made it a point to promote products made from local resources in various Philippine provinces. Joining the Global Pinoy bazaar is a means to encourage the Filipino craftsmen and women who simply look to earn a little extra income through their creativity and hard work. Pinoy products are definitely something to brag about!

2.) What can shoppers expect from our 2010 Collection?

Based on our product line-up, shoppers can most definitely expect variety! First and foremost, we have our Palamuti Jewelry line; which promises an interesting sea of costume and art jewelry designs, ranging from ready-to-wear pieces to those that suit a more “high-fashion” look.

Look forward to some native Pinoy pride with our Kikay Sisidlan bags made of purely woven Inabel from the Ilocos, and our Pinangga for Kikayism clothing line which showcases beautiful, painstakingly embroidered fashion pieces; a range of classy products made with authentic Pinoy love and imbued with genuine indigenous culture.

AND since beach season in the Philippines is all-year round, we certainly won’t leave out on the beach-loving, sun-worshipping bohemian Pinay! We promise to keep her stoked with a tropical punch of a shopping experience, because she will undoubtedly love our locally-made Merkins knit bikinis and Sunkissed line of tie-dye tees.

Valerie Tan of QTV's True Stories wearing Palamuti!

Words by:
Nikki Valenzuela
*first published on-line on September 2010

She need not downplay her talent, because she is under no category, the damsel in distress. She is charming, witty, and capable. No, she does not wait for her knight-in-shining-armor to make life happen.

Unbelievably, she can master the art of juggling roles such as commercial model, theater actress, TV host, and business woman. Beyond her image of poise and beauty, she is a true symbol of the modern Filipina; she is Valerie Tan.

Sweet, flawless, and fresh; this media sweetheart is the perfect combo of beauty and brains!

We can be no less proud that a girl like Valerie Tan, the epitome of the modern Pinay, has chosen to fashionably sport pieces from our Palamuti jewelry line. And as a sign of our utmost gratitude, we would like to place the spotlight on her; and not that this down-to-earth celebrity needs any more of it, but for the simple fact that we would like to showcase this charming stunner’s beauty from the inside- out! Let’s get to know more about Val as she answers our slightly tough interview, and she will undoubtedly surprise you with her “beyond-beauty-contest” answers!

Palamuti: What qualities do you think embodies the modern Filipina? What is special or unique about her?

Val: A modern Filipina is an independent lady who is not encumbered by rigid notions of tradition. She is no wilting flower, no shy Maria Clara; not a blindly subservient wife in a terno. A modern Filipina has a good head on her shoulders and stands for values she believes in, not just ideology enforced by society.

Nikki: As a woman in the media industry, what role do you think you play in creating/advocating change in today's society? How can you be (or how are you) a role model to other girls and women?

Val: Besides my mere presence on TV, I believe I can serve as a role model through my show “True Stories,” due to the humanistic themes it portrays. My work not only seeks controversy to boost ratings, but aims to highlight and publicize little-known issues in society in order to give hope, encourage, and inspire.

Nikki: As a career oriented woman, what goals, dreams, and future endeavors do you wish to pursue?

Val: I hope to still be in the media/TV industry; thirty, forty years down the road. I want to become a beauty mogul, hoping to provide women with affordable, high-quality beauty products. Overall, I want to fulfill my potential; to be able to maximize the talents and resources given to me by God, may it be in the TV industry, beauty business, or elsewhere.

For the lighter part of it...

Nikki: What do you love about being a girl?

Val: I like putting on makeup, wearing accessories, the “kikay” stuff. I like the fact that a man pampers and respects you (ideally hehe). I like the sisterhood of girl friends.

Nikki: What makes you feel most feminine, sexy, or beautiful? (it can be your favorite dress or a certain shade of lipstick.. anything "kikay")

Val: a pink shade of lipstick :)

Nikki: Do you have any favorite hobbies, interests, or random quirks? What other talents do you have aside from hosting (if any)? What are you preoccupied with during your free time?

Val: I take care of myself by going to the gym regularly. As for other talents, I used to act on stage. Since I am “kikay,” I ventured into the beauty business (check out her product, GlamBox Airbrush Cosmetics).

Nikki: As a girl, who would you say you look up to?

Val: My mom for her faith, strength and generosity.

Nikki: What do you think makes a woman truly beautiful?

Val: A woman is beautiful when she gives and receives love.

Nikki: Last but not the least, what do you love about Palamuti Jewelry?

Val: It's handmade, so a lot of heart and creativity were put into it by the designer. It's not just a piece of jewelry to me; it's a statement. :)

…and she couldn’t have said it any better.

Julia ♥ Necklaces

Chick Flicks we love and we don’t deny it. One of our top picks is the 1998 romantic comedy film The Wedding Singer starring Drew Barrymore as Julia Sullivan and Adam Sandler as Robbie Hart. ♥ Any girl would love to be swept off her feet, and yes, we got teary eyed and all swoony when Robbie sang that “oh not so popular song” to Julia inside the plane! Sigh.

Another fact, we love Drew Barrymore as Julia inspiring us to make this limited edition of Julia ♥ necklaces. ♥ * Check Chain Size http://palamutishop.blogspot.com/p/sizing-guidelines.html

P.S. The film was later adapted into a stage musical with the same title, debuting on Broadway in early 2006. If you haven’t heard, The Wedding Singer (musical) will grace the Philippine stage by 9 Works Theatrical Production. Party like 1985 and fall in love. Watch 'The Wedding Singer, The Musical Comedy' on its 1st weekend run on October 30 • 3:30pm - 6:00pm. You may reserve your tickets through Clarissa Martin (0917 8852526 or 0922 8351585). How Fashion Accessories Can Make You Look Younger

How Fashion Accessories Can Make You Look Younger
Article by : Kavita Kawde Dombivali (Mharastra)

Although its not possible to stop the clock from ticking and halt the aging process, there are hundreds of little things you can do to look younger. Here some tips on how fashion accessories can help you make the most of what youve got.
1. Long Scarf Tricks:If you have a large tummy and want to disguise it, wear a fitted jacket open, keeping the buttons parallel, and then wear a long scarf hanging in between, which will draw attention away from whats hiding underneath.
2. Parisian Chic:The Grace Kelly Scarf Stylish French women know that however beautifully made up your face is, a saggy wrinkled neck will always give away your age. Learn how to keep it covered up with a silk scarf tied a variety of clever styles.
3. The Best Disguise-----Always carry sunglasses in your handbag, even in winter, Low-level winter sun can cause squinting, and sunglasses are the best disguise to cover up tired puffy eyes.
4. Waist Cinches ------If you have a tiny waist, show it off with a wide belt. A low-slung belt that cuts across the hips can disguise a bulging tummy.
5. Look Like Audrey ------Cover up motley arms with long black evening gloves like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys. Choose Lycra over cotton as it will provide some support, and wear your biggest rings over the top.
6. Decorative Buckles -----A studded belt with a highly decorative buckle will attract the eye, but always consider where to place it for maximum effect. Unless you have washboard abs, choose hip-slung, as a belt around the middle tends to cut you in half and shorten the body. A decorative belt replaces the need for long necklaces.
7. Bag a New Bag ------There is no need to fully update your wardrobe every season when one key on-trend item like a fashionable purse can do it for you. Send your old-lady designer purses to the nearest vintage store for a twenty-something to make use of - on anyone too much older they will just make you look like youre living in the past.
8. One Size Doesnt Fit All -----Collect different purses for different occasions in your life - one all-purpose black leather bag stuffed full will wreck your outfit and your posture. For evening, look for smaller-sized clutches and purses made from unusual fabrics or colors, which are softer and less structural than your day bag. Do not be tempted to overstuffed them and ruin the shape.
