Celebrating International Women's Month

We were given an opportunity to celebrate International Women's Month's with East Avenue Medical Center, with an exhibit organized by the hospital's Public Health Unit Team. The exhibit ran from March 20, 2013 until March 22, 2013, which featured some of our products and the designs made by some of our beaders: Tes, Novie, Kriz, and Pearlie. Here are some of the photos from the event. Feel free to check more photos on our Facebook fan page!

The Girl is Now a Lady

"The Debut is a traditional Filipino coming-of-age celebration for young women. The occasion is somewhat reminiscent of the Latin American Quinceañera, although instead of celebrating the girl's 15th birthday, the debut celebrates the young woman's 18th birthday (the age of majority for women in the Philippines). "

By tradition, eighteen is the welcoming age to womanhood in the Philippines, and to greet this coming of age marks a big celebration organized especially by well-off families. Vital to every debut are the 18 roses, 18 candles and 18 treasures. The 18 roses are the celebrant’s handpicked 18 males who will give her a single rose before proceeding to a short dance; usually a simple waltz. The 18 candles are the 18 female friends or relatives who will say their wishes for the debutant, while '18 treasures' is the giving of 18 symbolic gifts to the debutant by important people in her life.

We rounded up a few ideas to make every debut memorable.

1) Sparkle with customized costume jewelry. Costume jewelry’s versatility gives you the option to choose the appropriate accessory to pair with your chosen garment.

2) Give personalized charm bracelets to your 18 candles and treasures. Trinkets are a girl’s best friend. Choose charms that represent the person you will give it to. You can give charm bracelets, necklaces, or charmed bag tags as tokens.

3) Decorate candles with wire art or decorative candle collars. Candles with decorative wire art have become popular in weddings usually for the unity candles. You can apply the same idea with candles to be used at your debut.

4) Provide customized boutonnière based on your theme for the 18 roses. Generally, a boutonnière is a single flower or bud regularly worn by men in past times. Nowadays, boutonnières are reserved for formal and special occasions that can be made from other materials.

We have a new blog focused solely on weddings and debuts.
