Outfits on the Year of the Horse

The spirit of the horse is recognized to be the Chinese people's ethos – making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. Ancient people liked to designate an able person as 'Qianli Ma', a horse that covers a thousand li a day (one li equals 500 meters). - Travel China Guide

Time flies by so fast, and now we welcome another Chinese New Year!  Though a Chinese celebration, it is well received and recognized around the world. This time, it's the Year of the Horse! Inspired by this generations old tradition, we designed our handmade Palamuti pieces to emulate the spirit of celebrating new beginnings.

The Horse symbolizes freedom and beauty, traits and virtues that we wish to embody this year. In honor of the coming new year, we've made a few sets of outfits using Polyvore. As mentioned, we added a touch of our own, signature Palamuti Women Accessories handcrafted jewelry,  which you can purchase on our website.

The Practical Bride

It has become customary for soon-to-wed couples to shoulder the entourage's outfits and tokens. Of course you’d also want your bridal entourage to be beautiful, as they march before your grand entrance.  Weddings can be expensive, but it should not prevent you from being practical. There are ways to achieve the wedding you have always dreamed of without breaking the bank.

Practical tip #1 : Hit two birds with one stone. Skip the heavy beaded gowns and instead add a necklace to complement their ensemble. In addition, they can use the necklaces even after your wedding.

Practical tip #2: Give your female godparents a necklace and bracelet set which they can opt to wear during your wedding. Choose a set that matches your motif.

Practical tip #3: If you want more embellishment, you can give embellished necklaces to your entourage and godparents. You can even choose to give them different designs but maintain the feel of your theme and motif for each piece.

Costume jewelry has its own perks. There are three reasons why they grow in popularity: price, variety and versatility. They are more affordable than “real” jewelry, but can be as elegant and priceless nonetheless. The great thing about costume jewelry is that you can choose a design which will go with your theme and motif. Depending on the material and design intricacy, you can get a great deal for your money. Plus, trinkets are a woman’s best friend; your female entourage and godparents will truly appreciate it. It’s something you will see them use even after your wedding.

There's More to Costume Jewelry

As a rule costume jewelry, strictly speaking, was meant to be a cost-effective alternative to the real thing. Losing or damaging pieces made with real gems and precious metals over synthetic byproducts is almost never preferable. But what if the costume jewelry you possessed was a one-of-a-kind creation; exclusively designed to fit your tastes, and by a master artisan no less? Wouldn’t you feel just as miserable?
The genesis of costume jewelry is a subject that can be debated at great length. However, one thing is for certain; technology, techniques, and the materials available have advanced in such ways that, it can also be argued that capturing the essence of beauty is where the true value of a costume jewelry piece lies.

With the coming of progress, there also come certain cautions. The earth, man, or nature, in one way or another, may provide the clay from which we shape our statues and sculptures. But it is the artisans' hand that guides its form, shape, and most importantly: message. The same goes for costume jewelry
When it comes to choosing the correct costume jewelry piece to compliment your ensemble or to add to your collection, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. Firstly, inspect the quality of your chosen trinket. Items of exceptional quality tend to stand out almost immediately. However, some products with inferior are slightly more difficult to discern.  Does the piece seem to have certain rough edges like it was churned out of a factory line? Or was it constructed masterfully, with an artisan’s eye, and a craftsman’s touch?
As a form of art, a costume jewelry piece should not be judged on the merits of the materials used to make it. But it should be judged based on its beauty, artistic design, and most importantly of all: it should make you feel happy.
