Wire Art Bridal Hairpiece and Hairstyles

Josephine wears a Palamuti Wire Art Hairpiece with an Updo Hairstyle
Wire art bridal accessories are a very popular choice among brides and hairstylists, if one prefers something unique, yet still  possesses traditional elements . The great thing about a wire art piece is that they're easy to use, since wire is flexible enough to be fashioned onto hair, depending on your hair style. You can also opt to wear your hairpiece, regardless if your hairstyle is an updos, down, or half- do.

TYPES OF HAIRSTYLES

1. Updos- This type of hairstyle is most commonly by brides, and the easiest to style using wire art pieces

2. Down- Brides don't usually wear their hair down for their wedding day, but doing so can be interesting, sophisticated, and glamorous; with the right attitude, and of course, the right accessory

3. Half Updos-  A compromise between the first two hairstyles. If you want to let your hair down and get the dramatic effect of updos, this is the right style for you.

Bridal Hair Fix for a Short Hair

Last year during the Philippine Heart Center’s Charity Bazaar we met Liezl, a medical representative and a bride. She was about to get married and was in the process of making the final arrangements for her wedding. She requested us to make a hairpiece for her, but she was oblivious as to what design, and how it should be worn with short hair.  In comparison with her maid of honor, who had very long hair, she kept hers short. Liezl couldn’t imagine what other hairstyles would suffice.  We wanted her day to be extra special through a single hairpiece.

Grecian Leaf Head Piece: Floral Hair-comb by Ginny & Jude

The idea behind the design is based on the Grecian leaf headpiece.  Liezl's hairstylist can fashion the headpiece around her head using hair pins for a queenly look. We used wire art techniques to combine white, chocolate brown and beige acrylic crystals to match the bride's gown.

There are many ways to style short hair. With the use of well designed headpieces, here are some of our favorites made by different artisans:

1. Take your wedding to a time of romance by using a fascinator made of feathers and laces.

2. Keep it simple with a use of a tiara or a crystal filled headband.

4. Use decorated bobby pins to give accent to your bob cut hair.

5. Headbands are the safest way to add flair to a pixie cut. As long as you choose the right design that fits your preferences and wedding theme, you're good to go.

Low-key, High-style!

It may be the secret wish of every girl to look effortlessly beautiful. I know I've daydreamed more than once about looking like Natalie Portman the moment I wake up and rise from the bed. But alas! Not all dreams are meant to come true in the exact way we wish them to. But to an extent, I've found that it's not at all entirely Herculean a task to look good with minimal effort.

Of course, some steps had to be taken to achieve this state (and mind you, it's still a work in progress). But I've found that editing your wardrobe and taking at all the ratty clothes help a lot--this way you won't be tempted to wear that comfy old sweater with a too-loose neck.

Another thing that I've also discovered is makeup. I avoided putting on makeup in the past because 1) i didn't want to make the effort everyday (precious time wasted???); and 2) I wanted to avoid putting things on my face that could worsen the state of my skin. But now, I've progressed to dusting powder on my face to at least try to manage the oiliness. I've also started regularly putting a bit of blush, brown or bronze eye shadow, and black mascara, of course! So it's not the fully made-up, geisha look that I abhor seeing, but at least my features are slightly better accentuated.

And then there's the hair. I recently cut it to some sort of asymmetrical bob, which has been good for me because I tend to pull my shoulder-length hair into a tight ponytail most of the time. I still remember my former office-mate telling me that she was "so sick of my hairstyle" and threatening to end our friendship if I didn't style it differently the next day! The short 'do has been good--I've been getting lots of compliments and people have recently been telling me that I was blooming. A lot of people at work also have short hair, especially the moms. But I guess what really makes the difference is my secret weapon--MAJOR EARRINGS!

Since the emphasis is all in the face, and there's a tendency to look boyish with short hair, I always wear statement earrings. From long crystal ones, feathered pairs, or statement beaded earrings, i think that's what really sets the look apart. It's instant glam, whether you have short or pulled-back hair. And unlike a complicated hairstyle, putting on a pair of earrings is as simple as 1, 2, 3!

Dreaming of Prom

It's already February! and although for some that would instantly translate to Valentines, the month also ushers in the Prom season--which is THE most important event in a young girl's life (well, maybe after graduation).  But it is the most important fashion event, at the least!

Of course, the focus is usually about the dress.  But in recent years, the trend has been moving from elaborate prom dresses to much simpler ones accented with statement jewelry.  why is that?  well, economically, a simple dress is really more practical.  the cost of labor and materials will be less, and the design will enable you to wear it on other formal occasions such as weddings, etc.  Also, the detail on the gowns is usually lost in the photos, which is why some prefer to amp it up with statement necklaces, earrings, or hairpieces.  After all, the photos usually focus on the face, so anything face-framing is best!  Here are a few ideas for you prom-goers (or their mothers)!!!

1. Balance is key! so if you're wearing a strapless or gown with a very open neck (which is the trend nowadays), try to find something to fill the space a bit, though not covering it entirely. this can be in the form of a necklace, or long earrings.  also, you might want to have one center accessory, while the others enhance that piece.  Big necklace? keep the earrings and hairpiece to a minimum, but still complementary.
2. Theme! your pieces don't have to be matchy-matchy, but it would be to your advantage if you stuck to a certain look or theme. Gypsy? you can play with colors and textures and be a bit eccentric.  Diwata/Goddess look? you can go with big mother of pearl or capiz pieces.  Ethnic? maybe more wooden or gold pieces.  Tribal? go with big, bold pieces.  Princess? dainty and girly will do the trick.  Be creative!  Think of your prom as a fashion editorial, but not a costume party (unless it really is one).

3. Break the rules! no, we don't mean you should take the plunging neckline route.  but think out of the box!  and don't let norms restrict you.  got short hair? you can still accessorize with a hairband and break that notion of short hair = tomboy! backless dress? you can even turn that necklace around to further emphasize your back.

4. She who is most comfortable is queen of the night.  Keep your comfort in mind.  5-inch heels may look nice, but that grimace on your face won't.  and they won't be taking your photo next to a meter stick, so why bother?  if you're not the type who wears heavy earrings, use clip-ons or go with a different statement accessory instead.

5. Don't stress!  In the end, your smile and twinkling eyes is still your best accessory (yes, even better than that arm candy of a prom date).  So just have fun! You're only 16 once!
